Kasargod (Area 1992 Sq Km) is the northern most district of Kerala, it was formed on 24th May, 1984. The district is bounded by Karnataka state in the north and east and Kannur district in the south. Physiographically the district lies between Western Ghats in the east and the Lakshadweep Sea in the west.
The coastal regions of the beautiful district abound in coconut and arecanut gardens while the midlands have extensive paddy fields. The important crops in the hilly areas include rubber, cashew and ginger. Fishing is the prime source of livelihood.
The district is a land of fabulous fantasies, it abounds in sacred temples with splendid architecture, majestic forts, ravishing rivers, undulating hills, verdant valleys and beautiful unspoilt beaches and is fastly emerging as major tourist destination.
The major industries are involved in the manufacture of handloom, beedi, tiles and coir products. Beedi rolling is an important occupation in the district.
