HOSDURG BEACH knowing as Meenapees. “Hosdurg” this name from Kannada language, it is ‘hosa’ means ‘new’ and ‘durga’ means ‘fort’, in Malayalam “Puthiya Kotta”.
Hosdurg (Puthiya Kotta) is the official city of Kanhangad. Several public offices are located within its premises like Municipality, Police Station, Fire Station, RD Office, RT Office, First & Second Class Magistrate Court, District Hospital, State Electricity Office, Treasury, Village Office, Taluk Office, Telephone Exchange, Tourist Bungalow, PWD Office, Water Authority, Post Office, Municipal Library, Town Hall and Co-Operative Bank etc. are located here. Also Town Juma Masjid, Catholic Church, Higher Secondary Schools (Malayalam, English, Sanskrit, Arabic and Kannada mediums) and Madarasa are also located here.
Hosdurg Fort: (half km. south from Hosdurg town) this is renowned for its chain of forts built by Somashekara Nayak of Ikkeri dynasty and also for the Nithyanandashram, an internationally recognized spiritual center (devotees and pilgrims from all over the world are reaching here for pilgrimage). Here constructed 45 guhas (caves) in a mountain slope. A full size statue of Swami Nityananda in sitting posture made of pancha-loha is one of the attractions of the asramam. Swami Nithyananda Poly Technic & Nithyananda English Medium School are situated in Hosudrg.
Hosdurg Beach is one of the main beach of Kasargod District. It is located two kilo meter west from Kanhangad city (Kanhangad Railway station and Kanhangad Bus Station), north & south boarders are crossing Balla Beach & Ozinchavalappu (Punchavi), east border Avikkara and west border covering Arabian Sea.
Hosdurg Beach is covering two wards (31 & 34) of Kanhangad Municipality, these wards are representing Mrs. C.H. Zubaida & Mr. P.V. Abdul Rahiman Haji (Vice Chairman of the Kanhangad Municipality) respectively. Hosdurg Beach is divided by three parts are Hosdurg Beach North, Hosdurg Beach Center and Hosdurg Beach South.

Fishing is a prime sources of livelihood along with coconut, paddy, tobacco (main source of tobacco cultivation in South India), sweet potato, tapioca, beedi making and home agricultural etc. It is the main fishing and fish-exporting center of north Kerala.
District main fisheries office and three main ice plants, which are working 24 hours with own transformer and power generator. Many peoples are belonging here employed abroad mostly GCC countries.
Huge numbers of foreign tourists are visiting this beach enjoying mesmeric sunrise, amazing sunset and scenic beauty. The silent eventide, the smiling stars, the singing birds, the blue evening sky and the ever- dancing waves are increasing natural beauty of the beach.
There is a symbol of communal harmony of mosques and temples. These are Hosdurg Kadappuram Juma Masjid, Sri Ayyappan Madam, Haddad Masjid, Badariya Juma Masjid, Nithyananda Swami Madam, Rifai Masjid etc.
There are working very well Schools, Secondary Madrasas, Typewriting Institute and kindergartens. Peoples are tolerant behavior and finesse in etiquette (Najathul Islam Madarasa, Government Upper Primary School, Nussrathu Dheen Madarasa, Government Lower Primary School, Hosdurg Kadappuram English & Arabic Typewriting Institute & Angan Wadis.
